Today we had a visitor from Geneva so we made a visit to Mottisfont house and Gardens which we haven't visited for some years. Many improvements have been made to the house and the galleries are excellent. They had exhibitions of Sheppard's Winnie the Pooh drawings, delicate kites, and mechanical toys.
The house was originally a 13th century abbey but the house as it is today was bought in 1935 by Maud Russell who was a great patron of the arts. She commissioned Rex Whistler to decorate the salon with trompe d'oeil.
